The reason behind the widespread belief that comfort women were "forcefully taken away" is a fabricated story by the late Seiji Yoshida in his book entitled "My War Crime" published in 1983. In this book, Yoshida illustrates himself hunting many women by order of the Japanese military in Jeju Island of the Republic of Korea.
At the time, the content of his book was widely reported as if it were a true story by the Asahi Shimbun, a major Japanese newspaper.
It eventually made a tremendous impact not only on public opinion in Japan and the Republic of Korea,
but also in the entire international community.
The reality is, Yoshida's story has later been proven to be entirely a product of imagination by scholars.

「慰安婦が強制連行された」という見方が広く流布された原因は、1983 年、故人になった吉田清治氏が「私の戦争犯罪」という本の中で、吉田清治氏自らが「日本軍の命令で、韓国の済州島において、大勢の女性狩りをした」という虚偽の事実を捏造して発表したためです。
この本の内容は、当時、大手の新聞社の一つである朝日新聞により、事実であるかのように大きく報道され、日本、韓国の世論のみならず、国際社会にも、大きな影響を与えました。
しかし、当該書物の内容は、後に、複数の研究者により、完全に想像の産物であったことが既に証明されています。

Japan is classless society.
We have no history of slavery.

日本は階級差別のない社会です。奴隷の歴史もありません。
差別意識も非常に低い。恵まれない人には憐れみと温かさをもって接します。
戦時中の日本軍もそうでした。

In order to prevent human trafficking, malicious brokers who forced women into prostitution against their will were arrested and prosecuted.

人身売買がないよう、女性を無理やり売春させようする悪徳業者は逮捕されました。

The Japanese military took care of the prostitutes’ working conditions with due consideration.
Recompense was 10 times as much as the salary the Japanese soldiers received at that time.

日本軍は思いやりを持って、売春業の女性の労働条件に配慮しました。
お給料は当時の日本軍人10倍でした。

After WW Ⅱ , the Japanese government expressed thankfulness to those women for comforting men by sending cordial letters from prime ministers and 20 to 30 thousand dollars’ worth of rewards.

戦後日本政府は、彼女らが日本兵を慰安してくれたことに感謝の気持ちを表し、首相が誠意ある手紙を送り、また20,000～30,000ドル相当のお礼金も送りました。

一方、他国はどうだったでしょうか？

During and after WW Ⅱ , the Korean War, the Vietnam War and other wars, no militaries or countries have ever treated women with such sensitivities to their human rights as Japan.

朝鮮戦争、ベトナム戦争、他の戦争でも、戦中戦後、日本ほど女性の人権に配慮した軍や国はあったでしょうか？
